Center for Emerging Adulthood

About this project

Jillian was taking her psychotherapy business in a new direction, focusing on young adults, especially those going through challenging times such as trauma, bullying or discovering their true gender or sexuality. She wanted a website that stood out from the usual therapist website designs, those with photos of concerned-looking people talking. These felt too sad and serious, and often didn’t represent the demographic The Center would be targeting. Instead, something more graphic-oriented and lighter in feeling appealed to Jillian. Riffing off the idea of a Rorschach test, I came up with a series of ink blot and watercolour paint effects that could be used throughout the site instead of photography, giving the website a softer and more creative feel that would not be alienating to any audience types, whatever their gender, race or orientation. We also used graphic elements to represent different services and aspects of the practice, rather than the usual option of using icons. As Jillian wanted to introduce a sense of movement, I created an animation for the homepage, as well. I also carried out a light brand refresh with an evolved colour palette, to bring a more modern feeling to the brand.

NOTE: After project completion, all clients receive training to empower them to update their own websites, so bear in mind that anything you see on the live website may not reflect my design work.
