Nice summary of the pros & cons, Whitney. It's good to see a real-life non-tech/user perspective. I've had a couple of clients ring with "HELP - I've deleted my site/page/data" calls, but luckily they were easily fixable due to Squarespace's recovery systems. All CMS's have their quirks, but so far I would say you have made a good choice with Squarespace as it seems easier to understand their quirks than some others (don't get me started on Drupal for instance!).

I agree on those points for sure... Squarespace is VERY responsive. I've submitted lots of support tickets, and they've responded usually within 10 minutes.

The customizations are difficult sometimes... I just wanted to change a link color (visited links), and Support just gave me a link to the developers' forum. However, just as you said, it was difficult to do even using Firebug and knowing CSS. Changing link colors should be part of the wysiwyg, in my opinion.

I wrote a review as well if you want to check it out http://bit.ly/ktVMv2

Great question, and yes there are certain design limitations. The main one being that you have to be on the Advanced subscription in order to have different page templates. The other issue I have found is that it's often more difficult than you may expect it to be to make certain customisations... it can be tricky deciphering the structure of the CSS even when using a tool like Firebug. Also certain things don't act the way you expect - for example, submenus & having a marker that shows which page you are on.

But the best advice I can give is to read up on the Community site - there are lots of great helpers out there, and the Squarespace folks are also pretty darn responsive, too. They will often make a video showing how to do certain customisations as soon as it looks like enough people want to know how to do it.

Best of luck with it!

Have you ever run into design issues with Squarespace? I've just begun using it for my clients and am researching cons. I'm highly proficient with WordPress design and development, and wanted to try something new. Any tips you might have would be greatly appreciated!
